Akismet is one of the best things that has happened to blogging. The sheer amount of spam that it catches automatically is mind blowing. Its algorithms are good, and it keeps itself abreast of the latest spam. And the best thing is that its free. Now, who can beat that * ?

But recently, I’ve noticed more and more spam getting through its filters, and there is a definite pattern as well. The pattern is quite simple actually. Spammers seem to be targetting posts, which have a lot of links to begin with. Here is a recent screenshot of some of the blog spam that got through.

I still love Akismet though. It does the job better than any other comment spam filter available in my opinion. Here is an other screenshot, testament to just that.

* Well, talking about competetion, there is Spam karma 2 which I’ve noticed has steadily getting more users. But, meanwhile, Akismet is still kicking spam’s ass !
