I love looking at stats for my blog. I can spend hours looking at stats from Google Analytics, on page views, time spent, bounce rate and all of that. But it had been a while since I checked up on my feeds. So, when I logged into my feedburner profile today, I was surprised to see that I have more than 40 feed readers. And that this number has been constant for a while now ! Didn’t see that coming.
Here is the proof for the non believer in you.

I also went ahead and activated my feedcount chicklet, so that I don’t have to keep logging in to find out how many readers I have.
So, if you want to see how many people have subscribed to your blog, here is what you do.
1. If you are burning your feed using Feedburner, its easy. Go to your profile, and you’ll get a nice stat about the number of feed readers, and the feed reading service they are using.
2. If you aren’t using Feedreader (and I totally recommend every blog to use it; not only because Google acquired it) then you can go to Google reader, setup an account, and then use the ‘Discover feeds’ section. This feature was enabled a while ago to stumble across interesting blogs, based on the feeds that you have subscribed to. Here is how you use it to find the number of subscribers:
- Head over to the ‘Discover’ section (it’s next to the Add Subscription link)
- Click on the tab on top that says ‘Browse’
- Key in your blog name, and hit Search for feeds
- It’ll show the number of subscribers to your feed, who have subscribed using Google reader.
Now, I know that this number is only those people who have subscribed to your blog using Google reader. What about all of the others who use other feed readers like Bloglines, Newsgator and Opera feed reader? Well, if you really want to know, it’s a good time to head over to Feedburner I guess.
