Every morning and evening I pass the construction from Begumpet to Nagarjun Circle. Everyday I curse the slow progress, and the inconvinience they are casuing.
Also, the construction is quite confusing. Lot of questions come to mind. Here are a few I have heard.
- How many flyovers are there?
- Why are the flyovers so thin?
- How long will the construction go on???
- Why me ? Why god why?
Anyway, here is a little sketch I made last night…..This is my view of how the flyover is going to be. ( No I could not find blueprints/models anywhere on the internet).
The idea ( as always with flyovers) seems to avoid all signals and keep the traffic flow.
All the flyovers seem to be one-way. Also, they seem to have been named Greenpark Flyover and Panjagutta flyover.
Here’s hoping they finish quickly and get some traffic under control.
Update: 9th September evening: Panjagutta flyover falls

That’s an interesting sketch. Would have been more realisted if you had put that over Google maps
When I was in Hyderabad some 6 years ago, they started constructing a flyover opp. Amrutha Castle (near Necklace road) - any idea if that’s functional now ?

There was a collapse, yes, but not in the structure, but in the temporary scaffolding used to join blocks of the structure - Only ‘The Hindu’ has behaved responsibly in reporting this news - It makes a big difference - ‘Scaffolding of the flyover collapsed’ versus ‘Flyover collapsed’ - It’s really sad, the way everyone has been misguided by the media which wants to cash in on sensationalizing everything possible! My heart goes for those who have lost their lives in this tragic incident :-(!! And I hope the government acts accordingly and punishes the people who needed to ensure safety during construction!!

In U.S, if a car is driven beyond the traffic rules for 5 times in a month, licence is cancelled. CC cameras will note down the car number and sends the image to the police. The worst traffic is found in Khairatabad, Panjagutta, and Ameerpet localities. The religious constructions like temples and mosques that are built accross the roads are major reasons for traffic. Bikers are the worst of all. Cars are O.K.

Posted 28 Apr 2009 at 9:57 pm ¶Good sketch Dude! This flyover really looks nice. This gona help to reduce the traffic block (hope so). The two wheelers are really worst in Hyderabad and govt. should construct new road only for them to avoid daily accidents.

[...] So, even before it is finished, the bridge has fallen. You know the Panjagutta flyovers right ? The ones under construction. It couldn’t stand 8 cms of rain coming down in a couple of hrs. And these are the bridges (flyovers) we are expected to drive on everyday? I hope HUDA stopped screwing around. By estimates, 20 people have died, and about 20 more injured. Cars have been crushed. The news is that a 100 m section of the bridge which was supposed to be completed by september this year has fallen. This is the section right in front of the mall Central in Panjagutta. I’ll try and get some streaming video and some pictures here soon. [...]
