Metro trains in India-Delhi

Recently I  was in Delhi and had a chance to travel in the Metro trains connecting about half the northern part of the city.

I will write more of the experience very soon. I have taken some videos, and will soon be uploading them and putting them here. I should say that it was a great experience. I could not believe the kinda infrastructure they built for this. Undeground, fully air-conditioned, escalators everywhere. Automated ticketing system (the token system), maps everywhere showing directions, great directions, automated announcements inside and outside the trains. Everything looked so out of place, that it took me a while to beleive I was in India !!

I remember travelling in San Francisco by their metro trains called BART (Bay Area Transport I’m guessing). The Delhi Metro comes very close I must say, maybe even better at some places, considering its new.

Here is the official Metro trains Delhi website.

Pictures and videos I took coming up soon.

    Hi Sasidhar,

I was in Delhi when the metro started in December 2002. I left India in April 2004 and I now live in Canada. I am student at the Univ.of Waterloo. I keep hearing a lot about delhi metro and how efficient the system is. I have never taken a ride on the delhi metro, I would like to do so when I come to Delhi in July 2007.
I am looking forward to seeing your videos. Could you tell me if a Rs. 500 travel card will be good for a month?

    Cheers,
    Dhruv.
