Proto.in in Chennai

Attended Proto in Chennai on the 18 an 19th of Jan. I was a first timer at Proto, and I was impressed. Well conducted, interesting people, interesting talks, and lots of new ideas.

Here are some interesting comments from various talks I sat through and different people I met:

” How many of you have paid to get into this conference ? ” ( A few in the audience raise their hands )
” Losers !!”, screams Vishal Gondal ( of Indiagames.com )
” You have to find ways to get into these things. You guys are future entrepreneurs, can’t waste money on paying for these things. ”

And he went on to tell his story, of how he started out. Fun guy. Interesting perspectives.

“Think of the next billion”, said Rajesh Jain from Novatium. Mobile industry, and network computing he said were the future.

” Take money from VC’s only when you HAVE to.” said Samir Sood of Google in his talk about how to make a good bussiness plan. Similar thoughts were echoed by Mohanjit Jolly of ( DFL group ).

“Open Social is the API standard that allows social networking sites to be accessed, by a ‘learn once, write anywhere’ model”, explained Muzammil from Google Product team.

I also met some interesting bloggers, had good discussions with them about blogging, search engines and Internet trends in India. From what I gather, blogging is fast becoming a means of pocket money for a lot of youngsters.
I took a few photos, but I might have lost them in a bad case of ‘deleting before backing up’, that has happened twice already in the last few months. I’ll try and make it up in the next Proto edition, which is scheduled sometime in July, in Delhi. I’m definitely gonna be there.
