Did you know you can recharge your Prepaid Mobile connection with Citibank/ICICI ?
Be Aware, that it is harldly a good idea. Do it only when you have no other option. They charged me Rs.324 for a ~Rs.150 recharge, with a 15 day validity. Hardly an offer I would like. ( Also, it didn’t extend the validity, it just covered the validity from the day I recharged.) Sucks !
Here is how you go about it.
- You need to login to your online banking service.
- You should have an option that reads, ‘Recharge Prepaid Mobile’.
- Enter your mobile number.
- Select your mobile phone service provider, and the Amount you want to recharge for (there will be a minimum).
You can recharge anyones phone ( read friends/family using this service ).
I hope Airtel/Hutch/Idea/BSNL and all other service providers give out better deals(offers) for people who are trying to reach out to them online. Whoever gets there sooner, will enjoy success with subscribers. After all, sonner than later, everyone is going to be online !
This online recharge is available with most leading banks ( Citbank/ICICI/HDFC etc. ) and most service providers ( Airtel/Hutch/Idea etc. )
Update:
A few other websites have cropped up since I last wrote this post.
You can recharge your phones here:
Do let me know what you guys think of these services.

Citibank sucks, I recharge my cell(idea) with ICICI bank, usually the transaction completes in 15 mins, and ICICI bank never charged more. But may change its policy soon.
But once the recharge process is completed, idea sends no message.
Posted 02 Jul 2007 at 5:54 pm ¶I did get a message, saying it was recharged though.
Posted 05 Jul 2007 at 9:33 am ¶The funny part was, they did not inform me what package I was getting.
All they said, was the minimum recharge was for Rs.324 and thats all.
Also, no info regarding this could be found on the Airtel website.
324 for INR 150 talktime? WTF you got mugged….

Posted 12 Jun 2008 at 9:20 am ¶I tried rechargetoday.com, but no respose since an hr, after a confirmation mail of order. Are you aware how long does it take to process. ?
Hi Pankaj,
You might have not transferred money to their Netbanking account & the order might be pending for payment from your end.
Funds must be transferred manually. I had an query with them regarding this and they said that no bank is offerring direct netbanking transfers as many of the banks themself have this mobile recharge service. So RechargeToday.com is providing bank transfers mannually.
I have recharged earlier for Rs.333 Airtel and in 3 min i got the recharge on my mobile after tranfering payment from my axis bank.
Posted 13 Jun 2008 at 11:33 pm ¶Thanx Sai,
Posted 14 Jun 2008 at 1:17 pm ¶yes this was the case as you suspected. Actually I thought I would be asked for netbanking through some links. I was later assisted by the rechargetoday sales team to know about the complete process, how it works. Thanks a lot agian.

‘Firefox can’t find the server at http://www.rechargeonline.in.’
A DNS lookup also fails, indicating it is not a temporary outage:
** server can’t find http://www.rechargeonline.in: SERVFAIL
To my surprise, I get a whois record:
Domain Name:RECHARGEONLINE.IN
Created On:03-Nov-2007 10:42:19 UTC
Registrant Name:mohsin ali
Registrant Organization:tara banke

We probably need to stick to banks or cellular service provider, however bad their service may be, for security.

I’v discovered a very useful site where one can recharge their mobile/DTH online. It is a 24*7, PINless recharge service. Here’s the link for it:
http://rechargeitnow.com
Try it, it’s very good!
Posted 12 Feb 2009 at 3:11 pm ¶why does airtel not make online recharge possible from their own website ? if i am wrong can anyone give me the link ?
Posted 21 Mar 2009 at 7:17 am ¶makuchaku, and maku are paid employee & agents of apanbill.com. Do NOT listen to their posts HERE as they are promoting their own website
Airtel is accepting payments online only from credit card which is very dangeroous, and has stopped netbanking payments form their website
Posted 21 Mar 2009 at 4:18 pm ¶I recharged through AirTel online service for Rs.121. Although the amount was debited in my ICICI account, the amount did not get increased in my prepaid balance. This happened earlier also and also when I recharged my TataSky account thro ICICI. Better to do such transactions manually.

Posted 29 May 2009 at 9:54 am ¶Please note that there all the websites that have been stated here who claim that they recharge your mobie are fraud. If you want to recharge your prepaid mobile use websites of banks such as hdfc, icici, etc. or use service provider websites like airtel, idea, vodafone, etc.
Posted 05 Jul 2009 at 11:48 am ¶If you read some of the comments posted on this blog you will notice that some people have started their own websites and promoting it through different names of people.
Don’t be a victim of this fraud. Moreover there are plenty of shops who have recharge cards. Why would you want recharge online in the first place.
Very good info buddy. Thanks for sharing.

I did not find recgarge option by e-banking in Airtel’s site and had to go out in search of a recharge voucher every time I need. On the other hand BSNL & Vodafon have excelent option for recharge through e-banking. Airtel should go BSNL/ Vodafon way for easy recharge.
