Spirituality and terrorism

Spirituality and terrorism are a product of a weak mind and a strong influence.

It’s a battle out there to get people to listen to the right people. But then again, who decides whose ideas and opinions are right?

One gets people to be more loving, healthy and happy.
The other makes people kill others, and be full of hate and violence.

    Same thing, right?

Although I understand what you mean.

Our societies and cultures today are getting more and more inhuman. It’s not just terrorists who’re causing pain. We’re causing pain ourselves.

There’s always going to be opposite opinions and always the opposite is wrong. Is any one willing to admit that they’re wrong?

I don’t want to bring spirituality into this. But I would just say that the aim of spirituality is unification. Right and wrong cease to exist and only the reality remains.

Its not an easy topic, definitely too large for a comment box anyway.

IMHO, spirituality brings you closer to your own true core self – now that could be good or bad and that too depends on the opinions of others.

For the terrorists, jihad is their way to spirituality and unification with their Allah, touch their core self and their indoctrination is such that they see nothing wrong in the path they adopt.

We too have our ways of getting close to our core self and to me, spirituality is just one of the ways.

As Afrin said, its too broad a topic to cover in a comment… sometimes even a lifetime is not enough.

Don’t believe in things that are not in your experience. If you don’t know, simply say ‘I don’t know’ and then you will have the longing to find out.

Right and wrong are too social. Good and bad are social too.

Look at this: you would say – killing is bad. stealing is bad.

But the law itself kills. in fact you can get medals for it.
and we’ve been stealing from every other creature for centuries.

So don’t believe.. until you know… Good luck.

@Anon: I totally understand and respect anonymity, but in this case I wish you had chosen to come out and speak your beliefs/opinions.

Also, I think you totally misunderstood my post. Please do re-read it. All I’m saying is both spirituality and terrorism are *products* of something similar. I’m not suggesting one is better than the other, nor saying it’s wrong to be either a spiritual person or a terrorist. It’s a personal choice, and you’ve got every right to be either, or neither. I’m not trying to judge here, nor am I trying to offend anyone. Actually, there isn’t anything in the post for anyone to get offended by.

Doesn’t everyone who’s trying to be spiritual have a guru? Don’t all terrorists believe what they are doing is for the good of their people, and completely believe in their mentors? Strong influences, and weak minds. (maybe not always weak minds, but impressionable. Again, it’s not a bad thing. )

And as you rightly said, ‘So don’t believe.. until you know.’
You should probably take your own advice and not say anything in this matter, if you aren’t a terrorist. You wouldn’t know anything about it, would you? :)

Maybe the sentence should have read: ‘Spirituality and terrorism are a product of a weak mind, a strong influence, _and a thousand other things_.

Sigh! I hate explaining myself. And worse, I hate stupidity.

Oh, I apologize. I didn’t mean to bother you so much with my small 2 cents. I guess this whole topic still brings out heated conversations everywhere…
I was actually trying to comment on the ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ aspect, and trying to show how subjective they can be..

    Doesn’t matter.

Btw, just wanted to add that the navigation to previous, next posts is a bit tough (unless I’m missing something)… am sure you can fix it to make it a little easier? Thanks!

PS: I’ll keep the anonymity for a little longer.

@Anon: You are right, there seems to be no easy way for sifting through posts.
I’d recommend Google Reader to solve that problem for now. :) Do subscribe to my blog.

I’ll be doing a revamp of the blog sometime next week. Thanks for the feedback.

PS. Do you have a blog where I can leave anonymous comments too? :D
