So, here is some math I was doing the other day.

I spend about 12 hrs everyday online(yes, I don’t have a social life) out of which 3 hrs are probably at home.

The Internet connection at my home is 256kbps, which ideally should be okay for surfing the net. Just catching up on some feeds, reading up some interesting stuff, and online social networking. But its not !

Each page-load takes about 2 seconds or so. And I probably change 1 pages, every 0.75 min on an average (I get bored pretty easily and I can read fast ). Internet speeds at work are fast, so I’m gonna assume, 0.75 seconds( the page to render, JS/CSS to kick in…..and all that jazz) per every page-load.

So, that leaves us two simple calculations to make.

240 pageloads at home w/ 2 seconds per pageload. ( 3hrs)
560 pageloads at work w/ 0.75 seconds per pagelod (9 hrs) ( also assuming a 0.75 mins spent on a page) ( and about 2 hr break (1 hr for lunch and 1 hr in meetings ))

I probably have spent atleast 1 year of my life……waiting for pages to load.

And so, the time I spend waiting for the Internet to serve me pages is about (480 + 420 ) seconds. Which is 15 mins, everyday. ( Maybe more on weekends, considering I spend more time surfing from home).

Now now….I’ve started on the Internet when I was 18 (agreed, I didn’t spend 12 hrs everyday back then, but I am asuming it’ll average upto 12 hrs in a few years). Assuming I live till 68 ( I’ll gym regularly and eat healthier food ), I would have spent 6 months waiting for pages to load .

Thats 1.041666666666666666666666666666666666666666666667 % of everyday !

6 MONTHS. Half a year in my lifetime…..

I am seriously considering moving to a faster internet connection. Or something else.

Any ideas what I should do?
